What is the ESOL Program?

The English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program is offered to all English learners in Fulton schools who meet the eligibility criteria set by the Georgia Department of Education. The goal of the ESOL program is for students to become proficient in the five language areas of speaking, listening, reading, writing and comprehension and to communicate successfully in both social and academic settings. The ESOL program aids the success of English learners’ immersed in an English-speaking classroom by addressing these essential language skills while building an understanding of American culture. This empowers learners to function effectively and productively in school and home environments. Guidance and support from ESOL teachers paired with accommodations provided by all school personnel provide the methods to accomplish this goal. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC) requires ESOL teachers to complete a certification program and to hold an ESOL endorsement beyond their content area certification. ESOL classes are limited to the maximum size specified by Fulton County in compliance with State Board of Education Rule 160-5-1-.08 Class Size. ESOL services in Fulton County may be provided through the following approved delivery models: sheltered content courses, push-in content courses, and/or scheduled ESOL classes.

Mrs. Jarrett

Hi! I am Sherri Jarrett. This year marks my 35th year teaching, and I absolutely love serving the English Learners at Wilson Creek. I have my B.S. and M.A. in Early Childhood Education with certification in Gifted, STEM, ESOL and Teacher Leadership. I have taught all grade levels PreK through fifth, gifted, STEM, ESOL, & EIP, and have had the privilege of being Teacher of the Year twice during my career. My husband and I have four adult children with families of their own. Spending time with them is my favorite thing to do – especially our grands. Teaching is my passion, and I cannot wait to see the growth of this year’s class of ESOL Wildcats!

Ms. Sutton

Hi Wilson Creek Families!

My name is Natasha Sutton and I have had the pleasure of working exclusively with our ESOL students for 3 years. However, I have been a part of the WCES staff for 11 years and almost 25 years in Fulton County. Georgia has been my home all of my life and I enjoy the cultural diversity that your children bring to our school. I am a mom of a high school daughter and we live in Alpharetta. When I am not at work, you can find me driving her back and forth to dance classes or volunteering at church. I look forward to working with a new group of students this year 🙂

Ms. Turner

Hi! My name is McKensie Turner and I am one of the ESOL teachers at Wilson Creek. This is my 11th year teaching ESOL and my seventh year at Wilson Creek! I grew up in the Johns Creek area and graduated from Northview High School, so it's fun to see many of my students on the same path. I received my bachelor's and master's degree from Georgia Southern University. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, hiking with my dog, and spending time with family/friends.
